Peshawar, September 10 — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority carried out major operations in Mardan, Swat, and Peshawar, uncovering large-scale production of adulterated jaggery, counterfeit branded products, and expired edible oil.

According to the authority’s spokesperson, a team in Katlang, Mardan, raided a house where adulterated jaggery was being produced in unhygienic conditions. Authorities recovered 1,000 kilograms of adulterated jaggery, 500 kilograms of substandard jaggery, and 100 kilograms of sugar. A bakery unit was also sealed in the local market over poor hygiene conditions.

In Swat, acting on a tip-off, the Food Safety team raided a unit in Mingora involved in manufacturing counterfeit multinational brand products. The raid led to the recovery of 600 kilograms of fake spices, 210 kilograms of glucose, 800 kilograms of packing reels, 100 kilograms of kheer, 40 cartons of packing material, and two packing machines, all of which were seized. An FIR was registered against the unit’s owner, who was also taken into custody.

Meanwhile, in Peshawar’s Town-4 area, officials raided a warehouse and confiscated 153 kilograms of expired ghee. Legal action has been initiated against the warehouse owners.

Provincial Minister for Food, Zahir Shah Toru, praised the successful operations and reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health. He directed the authority to intensify actions against those involved in producing and distributing hazardous and fake food items.
