Islamabad — Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON, and President of PML-N Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Engineer Amir Muqam, said on Sunday that during the recent floods all state institutions and the government stood united to support victims, prioritizing relief efforts over politics.
Speaking at a major press conference in Islamabad alongside senior PML-N KP leaders, Muqam said: “The devastation caused by the floods is before everyone. May Allah grant forgiveness to those who lost their lives in this calamity.”
Prominent party figures present included former federal minister and KP General Secretary Murtaza Javed Abbasi, MNAs Samar Haroon Bilour and Shahista Jadoon, Humayun Shah, Asad Shamsher, Ehsanullah Khan, Fawad Ehsan, Rahmat Salam Khattak, MPA Rashad Khan, Youth Wing Information Secretary Ali Khan Yousafzai, and KP Youth Wing Chief Organizer Samiullah Burki, among others.
Muqam thanked the Pakistan Army, NDMA, federal ministers and other institutions for their relief work, noting that Army Chief Gen. Asim Munir personally visited flood-hit areas, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif monitored the situation on a daily basis.
Rejecting opposition criticism in the National Assembly that the federal government was absent during the floods, Muqam remarked: “I would urge my colleagues to put on a new lens and see the facts. Federal institutions and ministers remained fully engaged. Restoring electricity was a major challenge, but it too was accomplished.”
He highlighted the presence of the NDMA chairman in the field and swift action in Buner, and pointed out that the prime minister had announced Rs. 2 million in compensation for the families of martyrs, along with complete assistance for other victims.
Taking aim at PTI, Muqam said: “When debate on the floods began in the Assembly, PTI staged a walkout. Whether it’s terrorism or a national tragedy, this party always chooses to run away.” He further accused PTI of undermining national unity on occasions such as August 5 (Kashmir Solidarity Day) and Independence Day.
Muqam stressed that climate change is a global challenge, adding: “Frequent terrorist attacks, natural disasters and loss of lives require serious input from political parties. This is the time to unite and serve the nation, not to engage in point-scoring.”
During the press conference, former Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi announced his decision to join PML-N without conditions, expressing full confidence in the party leadership. He pledged to work under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and KP President Amir Muqam.
Tangi, who began his political career with the PPP and served as a senator, said: “At this stage, I see PML-N as the only party that truly cares for the country.”
Welcoming Tangi into the party, Muqam said his inclusion would further strengthen PML-N in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: “PML-N is emerging as a strong political force in the province, and the joining of leaders like Bahramand Khan Tangi will accelerate this process.”
