Islamabad, 1 Sep 2025 : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan”s steadfast dedication to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) charter and its principles, while also emphasizing the nation”s need for uninterrupted water access according to established treaties. Addressing the 25th meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in Tianjin, China, Sharif affirmed Pakistan”s belief in regional collaboration and highlighted the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a model for regional connectivity.
Sharif underscored Pakistan”s support for the sovereignty of all SCO nations and neighbors, urging adherence to international agreements. He stressed that guaranteed access to water resources, as outlined in existing treaties, is crucial for the SCO”s effectiveness and the realization of its broader objectives. The Prime Minister advocated for peaceful resolutions to disputes through comprehensive dialogue, promoting stability in South Asia.
The Pakistani leader condemned terrorism in all its forms, citing evidence of external involvement in the Jaffar Express incident and other attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He emphasized the importance of a stable Afghanistan for regional peace and expressed optimism about trilateral discussions with China and Afghanistan.
Sharif acknowledged international support for Pakistan”s flood recovery and economic progress while also calling for an end to violence in Gaza. He reaffirmed Pakistan”s backing for a two-state solution with a Palestinian state within pre-1967 borders and Jerusalem as its capital
