KARACHI, Sept 11: Rotary Club Karachi Intracity marked the 96th birth anniversary of Dr. Ruth Pfau — the German-born physician revered as the “Mother Teresa of Pakistan” — with a commemorative event at Quaid-e-Azam House Museum.

Advisor to the Governor Sindh, Tariq Mustafa, graced the occasion as Chief Guest alongside District Governor Rotary, Shakeel Kaimkhani; President Rotary Club Karachi Intracity, Syed Nasim Shah; CEO Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC), Mervyn Lobo; Commodore (R) Sadeed A. Malik; Madam Irum Fawad; actor Ayub Khosa; singer Jamal Akbar; Naat Khawan Afaq Bashir Qadri and others.

Speakers lauded Dr. Pfau’s lifelong struggle against leprosy and her unparalleled humanitarian service.

Syed Nasim Shah called her “a beacon of hope whose work truly reflected Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.”

Shakeel Kaimkhani noted that “her tireless compassion transformed thousands of lives and continues to inspire Rotarians and citizens alike.”

Mervyn Lobo shared personal memories of working with her, recalling her visits across remote deserts, villages, and mountains to reach patients.

Tariq Mustafa praised her courage and vision, terming her “a shining example for Pakistan and the world.”

The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, screening of a documentary on Dr. Pfau’s life, and distribution of Dr. Ruth Pfau Memorial Awards among notable personalities.
