Sindh is on high alert as over 1 lakh 18 thousand people across 10 union councils of Ghotki district face potential flooding, with 5 to 7 lakh cusecs of water expected to reach Guddu Barrage by September 9. Authorities are fully prepared for emergency response and flood relief operations.
Flood Preparedness and Dam Inspections
Sindh Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar, the Left Bank Focal Person, conducted a surprise inspection of Qadirpur Shank Dam. Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Ghotki Manzoor Ahmed Kanrani and other officials, he reviewed dam conditions by boat.
Director SIDA confirmed that repair work is ongoing on Qadirpur Shank, Mangli, and Qadirpur Loop Dams, and embankments are being strengthened to handle the expected surge. Currently, 3.5 lakh cusecs are at Guddu Barrage, and 2.5 lakh cusecs at Panjnad. Authorities have already released 5.5 lakh cusecs while preparing for a possible 7–8 lakh cusecs inflow.
Relief and Medical Camps in Action
District Manager PPHI Ghotki Arif Abbasi confirmed that seven medical camps are operational in flood-hit areas including Shank Band Qadirpur, Nyaman Landhi, Kachho Bandi, Rais Ibrahim Chachar, and Hussain Beli. So far, over 8,700 flood victims have received treatment, with a mobile hospital and ambulances ready for emergencies.
Authorities on High Alert
Commissioner Sukkur Division Abid Saleem Qureshi inspected the district control room and directed local employees to assist in flood relief. Thousands of residents from low-lying Kachha areas have already been relocated to safer locations.
Meteorological forecasts indicate potential rainfall in Sindh until September 10, adding urgency to ongoing flood preparations. The Sindh government, alongside local authorities, remains committed to ensuring timely relief, rehabilitation, and protection of vulnerable communities.
