Provincial Interior Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Shamsul Haq Lone, held a key press conference in Gilgit regarding the ongoing protests at Sust Port. He emphasized that the government is seriously monitoring all developments and affirmed that peaceful protests are a fundamental right of every citizen.

However, he warned that certain groups attempting to hijack the port system and create an anti-state narrative would not be tolerated. The minister stated that the government is reviewing all legitimate demands. A committee comprising provincial ministers, senior officials, and the Secretary of Finance will convene soon to negotiate with all stakeholders and border authorities, with the charter of demands shared with the federal government.

Shamsul Haq Lone stressed that the provincial government will resolve the matter within democratic and legal frameworks to facilitate local traders and ensure uninterrupted commercial activity. He highlighted the strategic importance of Sust Port for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, calling its proper functioning and transparency a top priority.

The minister further warned that no group or mafia could hijack the port and that all trade activities will continue under legal and transparent frameworks. While anti-state narratives will not be tolerated, the government remains committed to addressing citizens’ legitimate demands and resolving issues through peaceful dialogue.
