Islamabad, September 6, 2025: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a special 180-day remission in sentences for eligible prisoners on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), the President’s Secretariat announced today.
The decision, taken under Article 45 of the Constitution, follows recommendations from the Prime Minister and the Federal Cabinet, who initially proposed a 100-day remission. After consultation, the President and Prime Minister agreed to extend it to 180 days, reflecting mercy and compassion on this holy occasion.
The remission applies to prisoners who meet the legal criteria. However, individuals convicted of serious crimes, including murder, terrorism, espionage, and major financial offenses, will not be eligible.
This initiative is part of the government’s effort to mark Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) with acts of leniency and goodwill.
