Islamabad: A key meeting of the high-level committee on merged districts was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam.

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, along with senior officials of the federal and provincial governments attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed various proposals for improving law and order, peace, and development in the merged districts.

The participants considered the restoration of the Jirga system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s merged districts, as well as alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to strengthen civil administration.

Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam stated that the Terms of Reference (TORs) of the reform committee would be made more comprehensive and effective to ensure sustainable development and peace in these districts.

He added, “We will work with the provincial government to put these measures into practice. Our shared agenda is to provide relief to the people of the former FATA, restore law and order, and ensure they receive their rightful facilities in education, health, and every sector of development.”

The participants stressed that the people of the former FATA had made great sacrifices for many years, and now it was time to grant them their due rights. They pledged collective efforts to achieve this mission.

Federal Secretary Zafar Hassan gave a detailed briefing on the committee’s agenda.

The meeting was attended by committee members including former ministers Dr. GG Jamal, Hameedullah Jan Afridi, former Chief Secretary Shakeel Durrani, former provincial assembly member Muhammad Ali Shah Badshah, Maulana Misbahullah Dawar, MNA Riaz Shaheen (District Kurram), among others.

Also present were Secretary Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan & SAFRON Zafar Hassan, Secretary Law & ICT (Ministry of Interior) Niaz Muhammad, Secretary Economic Affairs Division Dr. Kazim Niaz, Adnan Rafiq from the Ministry of Planning & Development, and other senior officials.

Special Secretary Home Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Samreen Fatima, Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, and senior officials of the provincial government also attended the meeting.
