Islamabad, 1-Sep-2025 : The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), partnering with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), held a session in Karachi to educate the financial industry about the We-Finance Code. This initiative aims to improve access to financial services for women.

The gathering brought together representatives from various financial sectors, including non-banking lenders, insurers, and asset managers. The goal was to provide a thorough understanding of the We-Finance Code and its potential to empower women financially.

Commissioner Zeeshan Rehman Khattak of the SECP stressed the significance of the code. He described it as a crucial step towards removing obstacles that prevent women from fully participating in the economy. By creating financial products designed for women”s specific needs, the initiative hopes to stimulate economic advancement and address financial exclusion.

Attendees learned about the code”s goals, implementation requirements, and potential effects on both the financial sector and women”s economic empowerment. Discussions also centered on integrating the code with current financial offerings to build a more inclusive system.

A panel discussion explored public-private collaborations to make these services widely available to women, especially those affected by recent floods. An ADB senior official suggested combining insurance and savings with loans to provide comprehensive financial support. This integrated strategy offers both financial security and access to credit, benefiting women and strengthening the financial system.

The SECP reaffirmed its dedication to developing financial products and services that cater to all members of society, especially women who are often underserved by traditional financial institutions
